"music to heal the globe"

A Cuban native, with degrees in both music performance and education from conservatories in Santiago, Maikel Garcia is a saxophonist and composer noted for his complex and innovative improvisation. He grew up in a home alive with bossanova, classical, and Afro-Cuban music. Today, he combines jazz with his Latin roots and funk to create a unique fusion of rhythms.

A current resident of the San Francisco Bay Area, Maikel’s musical journey led him from Cuba to Belize, Ecuador, and Mexico. As a soloist and bandleader of M Project, he’s played with the legendary Cuban percussionist Carlos Perrote, guitar virtuoso Jorge Triana, and internationally renowned guitarist Ale Dimogli of Argentina.

Recent works include Maikel's new Album Life that creates physical healing through vibrational therapy; his singles El Que No Se Enamora and Mamacita; and many film scores, including multi-award winner Truth Be Told: Irving Norman and the Human Predicament; and original commercial music for organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area, New York, and Europe.

Maikel is also a friend of the non profit organization Caminar. Since 2017, he has been a Teaching Artist in the Expressive Arts program, bringing therapeutic music to individuals in recovery from mental health crises.
